Activity Aim and Scope
Activity Aim
The congress is designed to contribute to rational antibiotic use in important infections in dentistry, to highlight the role of artificial intelligence in controlling dental infections, the importance of the oral microbiota and its relationship with clinical diseases, to raise awareness about its significance for public health, and to stimulate further studies in this area.
Topic of the Activity and Expected Wide Impact
Dental infections are a common public health problem that, if left untreated, can lead to serious "oral and systemic" health issues. Antibiotics are commonly prescribed to treat these infections, but excessive and incorrect use of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, a growing concern worldwide.
One way to address this issue is through rational antibiotic prescription practices, which involve using antibiotics only when necessary and selecting the most appropriate antibiotic based on the type of infection and the individual condition of the patient.
The issue of rational antibiotic use in the treatment of dental infections is an important area from student years onward, and it is a critical disease area that practitioners must be well-versed in. The goal of this event is to educate dentists about the importance of appropriate antibiotic prescription and to encourage the adoption of evidence-based guidelines for antibiotic use in dental practice.
The wide impact of this congress can be seen in increasing awareness among dentists about the risks associated with overuse and misuse of antibiotics, as well as the importance of using antibiotics wisely to preserve their effectiveness for future generations.
The mission of the event will be fulfilled when the knowledge shared and discussed at the congress translates into behavioral changes among participants. In this regard, the event will serve to remind individuals, communities, countries, and even the world about effective dental infection treatment and the importance of avoiding unnecessary and incorrect use of antibiotics, gargles, etc. It is hoped that this will help reduce the rapid rise of antibiotic resistance.
The target audience includes third, fourth, and fifth-year dental students, dentists working in public or private practice, and academicians. As done in previous years, the "congress book," consisting of speeches and papers, will be made available online for free. The congress books can be accessed on the congress websites (doinf.sakarya.edu.tr, oralmikrobiyoterapi.org, doinf3.sakarya.edu.tr). The book for this congress will also be uploaded to the website after the event (doinf4.sakarya.edu.tr).
Additionally, our meetings feature an exhibition that brings together academics, industry representatives, dentists, and end-users.
Interesting information and public service announcements during the congress will be shared through Anadolu Agency and other local media as SPOT information, ensuring that the knowledge reaches the public and raises awareness. In previous congresses, press releases and congress declarations have appeared in the media, emphasizing the importance of the issue for public health. Thus, it is expected that the congress will contribute to a better understanding of the issue among the public, creating societal interest, awareness, and consciousness.
Our congress project is aligned with the "2.3.3. Health" section of the 11th Development Plan, as it will discuss topics related to medicine and dentistry in an academic platform and explore innovations in healthcare.
Since the topics raised in our project will be addressed through cooperation among faculty members from different health-related faculties (medicine - dentistry), it will contribute to the goal of "increasing inter-institutional cooperation in the health sector" outlined in Article 579 of the 11th Development Plan.
The participation of scientists from various countries (such as the USA, UK, Finland, Nepal, Cyprus, Malaysia, Greece, etc.) in the congress will bring together the regional and Turkish scientific communities, contributing to discussions and presentations on technological advancements and innovations. This will ensure compatibility with the "2.2.3.2. Science, Technology, and Innovation" section of the 11th Development Plan. Additionally, our project will contribute to the principles outlined in Articles 354 and 355 of the 11th Development Plan, related to "realizing the national technology initiative."
Furthermore, the full-text papers presented at the congress will be published in a journal (https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/bshr), thus contributing to the academic activities in our country.
